The World nearly ended Saturday night when British rock trio, Muse blew Perth away with their sci-fi sounds and epic grandeur on November 10th. Launching their 5th album 'Black holes and Revelations.' Muse didn't disappoint some 1200 people who turned up in the blistering heat to this year's best concert
Perth support act 'The Dirty Secrets' started the night off, but not to long into their set, the crowd barrier snapped causing a 90 minute delay. With the crowd to angry, the second act was cancelled. Then the moment everyone had been waiting for, Matthew, Dominic, and Chris entered the dark stage, starting with Take a bow the first song on their new album, which possessed the three things that characterised the rest of the set: Matts's solid, scorching guitar, his trace-like concentration and his satisfied smile. Then playing Map of the problematique and New Born as coloured lazars shot in every direction, turning the mosh into a club like atmosphere. Butterflies and Hurricanes soon showed up, along with Matt's elegant piano solo. Supermassive Black holes got every one singing along, as well as giant robots marching on giant screens. An old song was soon to show up and it did Sunburn, blasting us away with Matt's graceful start. Apocalypse please was next in line, as it sounded more open and purer than the recording, as all their songs do. Then it came time for the 7 string favourite Citizen Erased, with Matt's fantastic falsetto, Dom's wicked beats and Chris's out of control riffs, this was a song that couldn't get any better. A softer song soon turned up Soldiers poem, as Matt got everyone to sway their phones, and a change to an acoustic guitar too. A not much softer song soon followed invincible, got the crowd swaying and clapping along.
A surprise to most people when Fury was played, since Muse hadn't played it live in three years, but still got the crowd excited. The long awaited starlight finally came up, Matt clapping along as Dom tapped away. Hysteria, Times Running out and Stockholm Syndrome finally showed up, and gave Matt a chance to take a break from singing and let the crowd takeover. Muse then left, with the crowd wanting more. They encored them back on. Playing Plug in Baby, with the crowd going insane. Then finishing with knights of Cydonia, the last song on their album. Matt took the crowd away with his elegant voice and insane guitar riffs, along with five colossal screens, a spectacular light show, giant confetti filled balloons and a massive smoke explosion. This will be a night Perth will remember for years to come.
