After enduring one hell of a massive rain storm, we were treated to one hell of a good show by rock gods Muse.
Forecasting the weather to come, NYC s The Cloud Room opened the evening with an interesting set of atmospheric rock that was perhaps a rain dance for the soaker thunderstorm that would drench the crowd almost immediately after.
And the skies certainly did open up! While roadies on stage scrambled to secure equipment, fans jostled for shelter under each others? umbrellas, rain jackets and plastic tarps. Luckily the rain storm passed quickly and soggy but not deterred, we patiently awaited Muse?s arrival on stage.
Sensing that perhaps we were all a little water weary, Muse put out one sizzlingly hot show, showcasing their best for a crowd that for the most part, had never seen Muse live before.
Opening with Knights of Cydonia, and moving through their set of energy driven songs predominantly from the Black Holes and Revelations album, Muse proved why they are one of the best live acts in the business. Flipping breathlessly between his electronic piano and custom stock of guitars, Bellamy and his troupe stormed through fan fav s including Plug In Baby, New Born, Citizen Erased and Hysteria. The end of the show left fans literally screaming for more, and Muse did not disappoint, coming out for a twenty minute encore. Ending with Newborn, Muse thanked the audience and departed, having given yet another amazing, energy laced live show.
Ears buzzing and head spinning from the amount of power generated by this three piece band, we left, still slightly damp but fully satisfied that we had fully appreciated the live Muse experience. Perhaps feeling that nature had been upstaged by the rock gods, the skies opened up yet again following the show. By this time, however, we were safely out of the elements.
What was perhaps most interesting to observe at the Montreal show was the audience that Muse drew. Varying in age from toddlers to tweens and fifty-somethings, goth queens, yuppies, tree huggers, metal heads, and of course moshers were all equally represented in this wildly varied, enthusiastic audience.
With an extensive and growing base of loyal, devoted followers, Muse is doing a great job winning over hoards of new fans with each live show. Last night was no exception as the lines for the souvenir stands quickly filled with fans interested in taking home souvenirs from the show. All the buzz that is being generated means that Muse will have a very bright future here in Canada.
Reporting from Montreal and looking forward to the next live show,
